With Gratitude and Joy - A Letter from our Founder

"Let your joy be in your journey, not in some distant goal." - Tim Cook

When did you experience joy this year? As I sit on the train heading back to Revel from a few days in Quebec City with the Exploration Rebels, it's the perfect time to reflect. With every year, there come falls, triumphs, and immense growth. Watching Sparks grow in independence, and the Discovery Rebels learn to self-govern, was inspiring. The Exploration Rebels worked hard to develop a kind studio culture that valued a strong work ethic, and the Launchpad learners took on challenging coursework while making time to pursue their personal passions.

The "little things" have made the biggest impression when thinking about this year's highlights. Walking into a studio full of intentional and productive learners without adult presence, glimpsing beautiful acts of empathy, and the smiles, oh the smiles, are all examples of how different Revel is from other schools. It was an honour to witness so many moments where you used your time, energy, and talents to bring joy to others.

Since gratitude and joy go hand in hand, I would like to thank Ms. Megan, Ms. Kaitlin, Mme. Marianne, Ms. Mel, Ms. Amy, and Ms. Jenna. Our studios would not be the fun and enriching learning environment you deserve. They work so hard to ensure you are seen, heard, and valued, making Revel one of the places where you can be free to be yourself. I feel incredibly fortunate to work with such a talented group of educators.

A big shout-out to our families who consistently demonstrate their commitment to raising kind humans who will change the world. Their willingness to step back when you are frustrated and step in to celebrate your wins empowers you to trust yourselves and take ownership of your decisions. Please thank them for the opportunity to take on the challenge of a learner-driven program.

Rebels (yes, you've guessed it, I'm tearing up as I write this), thank you for bringing me joy daily. I look forward to greeting you each morning, receiving your awesome hugs, sharing jokes, learning new fun facts, and hearing when you earned a badge you've been working toward. Your inquisitiveness, persistence, and resilience are your superpowers and will serve you well!

Please remember that once a Rebel, always a Rebel, and I will be here for you should you ever need someone in your corner.

With joy,

Erin
